A 4,17 billion turnover of organic food has been the result 2012 that is in the end 2,4% of the total turnover of food. But only 3,77% of the franch surface has been dedicated to organic farming even if the share of organic farmers in France is now 4,7 % of the total.

The most powerful sales of organic food have the retail shops with 47% of the organic food-sales per year, followed by the more modern organic soecialist chains with 27 % of the total sales. There has been a dramatic change in favour of this type of specialist shop, because the independent organic specialist shops now have only 9 %.

Quite interesting is also, how different the distribution of organic food is spread over the nation. In the strong organic south we have mainly in the east a stromh specialist network, in the very western part Bretagne we have a strong organic demand and a nearly balanced ditribution and in the center around Paris we have a very strong retails and strong specialist shops selling organic food. But we also consider by the latest figures, that mainly the amount of organic produsts being sold did increase. The prices for some important goods like organic milk, other dairy products, eggs and even organic seafood went down. Despite of this growth consumers did react on general economic situation demanding for lower prices. So when prices seem to be too high they switch from organic food as we see for example with organic bread and flour, where we had higher prices.

But in toital the organic price-level in France did remain o.k. There have extremely low prices on selected goods like milk and some low prices of processed food when a big conventional producer concentrated on a selected organic product being sold some hundred pieces a year.
