Studies like those of  Institut für Organischen Landbau der Universität Bonn are always in a way late, what is no reason to doubt the results: The excellent development of german organic consumption can only go on if there will be also a suitable promotion of development of organic production at the same time. That is a fact also to be seen in a lot of other European countries, mainly under the situation that a lot of them are still rather badly hit by the financial crisis.

Germany is the biggest organic market in Europe and while the turnover of sales in decade from 2000 grew more can 100 % the surces of organic farming only had a growth of 75 %. That showed the structural problem of german organic economics.

consequences:

In Germany farmed organic products lost continiously their shares of the market, to be clearly seen in the organic key market of fruit and vegetables: With increasing sales apples, strawberries and tomatos from Germany lost significant parts of the national market and we see the same development in the feeding section of animals. So the german farmers loose more and more thei part in the national organic market

reason why:

Since 2005 there has been a steady decline of gouvernment support of organic farming in Germany. In the total ranking of European countries a strong economy like Germany is only No. 15. In other countries like Spain, Sweden, Polan, Czechia, Latvia and Romania, organic farmland has been growing extremely without a national organic consumption like in germany. In longer perspective this development will weak point for german agricultural development. In some of the german Länder, politicians are rethinking their policy to support more organic farming because organic farming is also part of economy and environmental support.
